port challtuinn
ports of lismore collection

Handcrafted from burr elm, resin and foraged treasure in a small, one-man workshop on the Isle of Lismore.

Inspired by a time when life was inseparable from the sea. Old maps of Lismore show more than 17 named ports that today look like small stony beaches breaking up the rugged coastline.

Nestled below a line of cliffs in the stony beach of Port Challtuinn. Although well protected on 3 sides from the worst of the southwesterley weather, and having good grazing close by, there is no sign of any old habitation. We can only guess at a bygone use, as many of the ancient dwellings on Lismore are of a simple grass sod construction and have completely vanished under hundred of years of hooves.
