Born in 1964 under the shadow of Pendle Hill, Michael has always been captivated by the changing moods of Landscape. His atmospheric paintings seek to reflect those beautiful transient moments that cause us to stop and stare with a sense of awe. Known particularly in the North of England for his subtle pastel painting approach, Michael’s paintings and prints have found a home in private collections across the world. In recent years, his work has broadened to include many works in oils, acrylics and watercolours. Working with different materials has encouraged him to explore different ways of responding to both inner and outer landscapes – often using memory and imagination to capture a sense of place and to reflect stirrings of spirit and soul. Inspired by regular visits to Watercolour Cottage in the stunning area of Ardgour on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, Michael’s latest series of paintings is titled ‘Mountains and Mist, Scotland’. Through this collection, he explores the majesty and mystery of the lost and found contours of landscape so often shrouded as they are in beautiful swirling mists. His paintings are an invitation into the very heart of the landscape.
