lynn mcgregor
Lynn McGregor is a contemporary Scottish landscape artist who was born in Pittenweem and trained at the Edinburgh College of Art. For twelve years, she lived on an otherwise uninhabited island on Strangford Lough, Ireland, with her husband, the writer Michael Faulkner. She now lives in rural Argyll, where her studio overlooks Loch Awe.
Driven by the memory of landscapes, McGregor works intuitively to strike a balance between texture, movement, and geometry. Her process involves energetic overlayerings of colour and the strategic blocking out of shapes and marks. While she initially allows the paint and marks to guide the direction of the piece, she eventually asserts control over the medium, carefully maintaining its raw, immediate energy. McGregor has won several awards for her work, including The Sir William Gillies Award from the RSW.
