lee o'connor
Lee O’Connor grew up in the west Highland village of Strontian, where he has recently returned to live. He studied at the Leith School of Art before going on to Edinburgh College of Art to complete his BA(Hons) and MFA in Drawing and Painting in 2005. Since graduating, Lee has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. Employing painting and photography, Lee’s art practice broadly explores the interaction where human intervention affects the landscape, a dynamic he emphasises observing without explicit judgment. Often, his subject matter revisits the environments imprinted on his mind during his formative years growing up in the Highlands. In his own words: “I explore and develop reflective art practices that challenge historical and perceived notions of culture. Subverting romantic presentations of our past through an unusual mix of photographic abstract drawing and painting helps me create work that fosters a dialogue between cultural past and present, examining their interplay and subconscious effects.”
