elemental plants | kirsty lorenz
An exciting new body of work by Scottish artist Kirsty Lorenz exploring the elemental plants and landscape of Ardnamurchan.
Four years ago, during a period of intense personal challenge, Lorenz felt that her 20-year practice of painting flowers had lost its meaning, leading her to believe she was finished with painting altogether. A supportive friend offered her a respite stay in Portuairk. There, surrounded by the resilient wildflowers of the elemental landscape, she found renewed inspiration, laying the groundwork for this new collection.
Working from detailed drawings and structural research, Lorenz creates stylised portrayals designed to express her emotional response to the plants and the land—capturing a universal life force, hope, and connection. The exhibition also features selected paintings from her earlier series—Votive Offerings, Plants, Magic, Medicine, and Recipe for a Miracle—offering insight into her broader creative journey.
