About the artist:

Born in Edinburgh, Helen studied Ceramics at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, specialising in Sculptural and Architectural Ceramics. After working as an Architectural model maker, Town Artist and Arts Co-ordinator throughout the country, she now lives with her husband and daughter in west Lochaber where her Ceramic wall pieces, bowls, sculpture and paintings are inspired by the stunning natural environment of the area.  Helen uses different hand building and decorating techniques to create her Ceramics and a range of clays including stoneware, porcelain and Raku clays.  Her wall pieces are made with local impressed leaves, plants and seaweed, then Raku fired to create the glazed design and smoked decoration.  The work is fired in a kiln outside with the west coast elements influencing the final result and helping to create each unique Ceramic piece.  Helen is currently experimenting with porcelain paper clay and natural materials to develop a new body of work.
