Chrissie Orr was born in Scotland and is an artist, animateur and creative investigator. Now based in New Mexico, she originally studied at Edinburgh College of Art and then proceeded to develop her skills as an artist in unconventional places and ways, throughout the world. Her many travels have seen her work as a circus performer throughout Europe, a muralist in Corsica and she has created community based projects in Australia, Iran, Turkey, Europe, Mexico and America. She was also the co-director of Arran Community Arts Project on the Isle of Arran, Scotland, which was one of the first rural arts projects to be funded by the Scottish Arts Council. Subsequently, Orr has gone on to create innovative, provocative community based art projects in diverse areas of the world, and is recognised internationally for her pioneering work. She is the recipient of the Santa Fe Mayors Award for Excellence in the Arts, is a founder of the SeedBroadcast Collective, the co-founder of the Academy for the Love of Learning’s EL Otro Lado Project and the Institute for Living Story, and is presently the Academy’s Creative Practice Fellow.
