Black Rocks at Traigh
Andrew Stewart
BA Hons Fine Art (painting and drawing) Duncan and Jordanstone. A landscape specialist, Andy moved over to the Ardnamurchan Peninsula to capture the essence of the West Coast and aid in the development of resipole studios with colleague Andrew Sinclair.

His work uses traditional compositional devices and techniques reflecting the traditional landscape of the West Coast. Placing great emphasis on grounding his paintings in solid techniques that allow him to build the work up gradually in a series of layers; his method is to apply a ground in Raw Sienna or perhaps some other earth colour and do a detailed underdrawing into that in pencil, creating an “ "Imprimatura” building the tonal structure onto once dry, then applying glazes of colour to give the final effect. Once at the colour stage that is when the painting becomes an individual piece and the technical aspects of the creation give the structure for subsequent embellishment.
